LBi tops Marketing magazine’s digital league table for the second year running

New blue-chip clients, significant hires and blending a first class creative and  technology service contributes to strong business growth

London: Global digital marketing and technology agency, LBi, has again topped the annual Marketing magazine digital agency league table.  Based on turnover, financial growth (benchmarked against 2010) and expansion in terms of staff and also the acquisition of new digital skills, the league is universally recognised as a clear indication of agency performance in the UK.

With mixed market conditions prevailing, LBi has bucked the trend and pitched and won some major accounts throughout 2011 including:  America’s Cup, ASDA, Coca Cola (NWEN), Coca-Cola (Global Olympics), Logica, Pruhealth, SABMiller, (Peroni, Grolsch and Kozel), Sony Ericsson, Lastminute.com, and Choice Hotels.  The agency has also grown organic revenue year-on-year by 17% from existing clients including: BT, Barclays, Lloyds TSB, Marks & Spencer and Virgin Atlantic and Starwood.

LBi also significantly grew its skill base with the acquisition of bigmoutmedia in 2010 which has led to new opportunities in SEO, social search, display and affiliate marketing.

In line with this expansion LBi has grown its personnel in over 25 departments with 100 new hires, taking the UK total to 545.  It has also continued to grow its core services and 2011 has seen the agency develop expert teams around Content Strategy, Branded Content and Mobile.

Anil Pillai, CEO, LBi UK said: “The digital industry in the UK continues to grow and innovate and LBi is clearly helping to lead this particular charge.  This year we’ve spent a lot of time galavanising our blended approach to technology, creativity and marketing by making significant hires, growing our talented teams and broadening our core services which has helped strengthen our position in the market.

“Looking ahead, the next year is already shaping up to be an iconicyear with our clients really grasping our blended offer and asking us what’s next for  their business.”  We have some awesome products launching in 2012 across household brands, many of who have a stake in the 2012 Olympics.  Our partnerships with top clients are flourishing. our mobile offering is maturing rapidly, we have significant new hires across departments and many new business prospects set for what is set to be another exciting year for LBi”.

Anil Pillai, currently UK Managing Director, has been promoted to the role of UK Chief Executive. He will drive the expansion of LBi’s UK operation, working to define and execute digital strategies for clients including BT, Lloyds TSB and Ericsson.

Throughout 2011 Pillai will strengthen LBi’s UK management team with a series of high-profile hires. He will also be responsible for taking the agency’s blended full-service offering to new UK clients.

Ewen Sturgeon, Chief Executive EMEA said: “Anil has been doing an amazing job of leading the agency to new heights in terms of the clients we have won and the work we are now producing. He thoroughly deserves his promotion and I am looking forward to continuing to work with him to further develop LBi in the UK.”

Pillai added: “LBi has been on an exciting journey over the last few years and the momentum with which we are entering 2011 is staggering. It’s great to be taking over as UK Chief Executive at a time when LBi’s creative and strategic offering is reaching critical mass.”

Sturgeon has been LBi’s UK and EMEA Chief Executive since 2007 when the agency was formed following the merger of LBi Icon and Framfab. Prior to that he was Managing Director of Wheel.

Pillai has been UK Managing Director since the creation of LBi three years ago in the UK. Prior to that he was Client Partner at Framfab, and before that Sales Director at Oyster Partners.

Additionally, the reorganisation will see Bigmouthmedia UK Managing Director Phil Gripton take on the newly created role of Managing Director of both LBi UK and Bigmouthmedia UK. LBi and Bigmouthmedia merged last year to provide brands with digital marketing, consulting and technology services in multiple international territories. Gripton joined Bigmouthmedia UK in September 2009. Prior to that he was Director of Partners at Cable & Wireless.

World Web Wins

Some more news on the awards front from LBi. We’re chuffed to have picked up Best Retail Website in this year’s Web Award, along with two Outstanding Websites for BT Consumer and Barratt Homes. Barratt Homes also picked up a Commendation for the Schools Search engine project.

And along with quite a few nominations in this years BIMA Awards, Mobile Mobile was also shortlisted in the Captured category in this years Vimeo Festival awards. Not bad for a film that was only intended to let remote viewers experience the installation.

LBi wins HIVE award for BT Business site redesign

LBi has won a globally-distinguished Hive Award for Best Information Architecture for the redesign of BT’s Business website, http://business.bt.com. Judged by an internationally-renowned panel of experts, LBi was recognised for the organisation and optimisation of the site’s content.

With LBi input, BT Business’ information architecture has seen a 25% increase in broadband sales, a 75% increase in calls and line sales, and a 105% increase in domain and hosting sales. Traffic from natural search has also increased by 77%.

BT Business offers the UK’s 4.8 million-plus* SMEs more than 130 different business IT and communications products online. Ranging from start-ups to firms with 1,000 employees and some significantly larger, the market is diverse.

LBi redesigned the company’s site in 2009, moving from an online catalogue to an ecommerce vehicle. Using a detailed customer segmentation model, LBi insight was to design the site for an individual user rather than a business. The result has been a fresh site targeted at people rather than job titles.

Sarah Morris, director of User Experience at LBi says “This is a great win for us, in a category that is actually quite hard an area to differentiate. Information architecture is usually driven by the content and business requirements, so it’s great that, by utilising insights and by thinking about the taxonomy differently, we’ve been recognised for the creativity whilst at the same time meeting customers’ needs”.

Anil Pillai, Managing Director of LBi UK says “It is refreshing to win an award for User Experience – this is an area that contributes hugely to every project we do and is often not recognised as much as it should be.  User Experience is the unsung hero of the industry.  This is a renowned award and we are proud to have received it”.
